STRANDS (2009) - Belinda Reynolds

Commissioned by Thomas Burritt and the University of Texas

STRANDS was written in the winter of 2009 as part of a commission by percussionist Thomas Burritt and The University of Texas at Austin. The work gets its title from the way the opening material evolves from the two melodic lines that the marimbist is playing in each hand. I experiment with these materials throughout the piece, creating new textures and interpretations of the music, while keeping their inherent rhythms and harmonies. Special thanks goes to Thomas Burritt for his invaluable input and guidance in writing this work.
